There was a point where we genuinely thought — maybe this isn't going to work.
It was late. Like, really late. We were sitting around with a bunch of prototype bowls that weren't quite right, a group chat that had gone quiet, and a golden retriever named Biscuit who had just knocked over yet another test bowl and walked away unbothered. 😐
Classic Biscuit.
We'd been at this for a while by then. What started as "let's just make a better slow feeder bowl" had turned into way more than we expected. Material sourcing. Depth testing. Watching dogs get frustrated and give up. Watching other dogs solve the whole thing in 30 seconds like it was nothing.
It was a lot.
One of us said, half-joking: "What if we just... sold the prototypes and called it a day?"
We laughed. Then we sat in silence for a bit.
Then someone's dog — a tiny rescue mutt named Pepper — walked over, sniffed one of the bowls, and just... started eating. Slowly. Methodically. Like she had all the time in the world. 🐶
We watched her for like three full minutes without saying anything.
That was kind of the moment.
Not a big dramatic breakthrough. Just a small dog, eating calmly, doing exactly what we'd hoped a dog would do.
We kept going after that.
Still a work in progress — but so is every good thing, right? 🐾
